Things We Should Stop Feeling Guilty About

Apparently We're Supposed to Feel Guilty About Everything Now. Nope. We're Retiring That. ๐Ÿ˜‰

There comes a point when you have to ask yourself:

โ€œWhy am I apologizing for things that aren't actually wrong?โ€

Wanting some alone time? Guilty.

Buying yourself something you love? Guilty.

Saying no? Guilty.

Taking a lazy day? Guilty.

Wanting more excitement? Guilty.

Girlโ€ฆ enough. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Life already comes with enough responsibilities. We don't need to add a full-time guilt department to the schedule.

So today, we're closing the office.

Here are a few things we're officially retiring the guilt over.

๐Ÿ’• 1. WANTING ALONE TIME

You can love your people and still want everyone to leave you alone for a minute.

Alone time isn't rejection.

Sometimes you don't want to talk.

You don't want to answer questions.

You don't want to make decisions.

You want a shower, comfy clothes, your favorite drink, your phone on Do Not Disturb, and approximately zero responsibilities.

That's not selfish.

That's called having a nervous system. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ’‹ 2. BUYING YOURSELF SOMETHING JUST BECAUSE

Does everything you purchase need to be practical?

No.

Sometimes you see something and think:

โ€œYep. She's coming home with me.โ€

Maybe it's a new outfit.

Maybe it's perfume.

Maybe it's something for your bathroom.

Maybe it's something that makes you feel a little extra.

You work hard.

You're allowed to occasionally buy something simply because you like it.

๐Ÿšซ 3. SAYING NO

Here's a revolutionary concept:

โ€œNoโ€ is a complete sentence.

You don't need a 14-slide presentation explaining why you can't do something.

You don't need to invent an emergency.

You don't need to feel guilty because someone is disappointed by your boundary.

Sometimes:

No.

That's it.

And honestly?

That can be incredibly freeing.

๐Ÿ“ฑ 4. NOT ANSWERING IMMEDIATELY

Just because your phone is in your hand doesn't mean you're required to respond immediately.

You can see the message.

You can think:

โ€œI'll answer that later.โ€

And thenโ€ฆ answer it later.

You're not ignoring someone simply because you didn't respond in 37 seconds.

Your life is allowed to happen between notifications.

๐Ÿ”„ 5. CHANGING YOUR MIND

You are allowed to change your mind.

About the plans.

About the outfit.

About the job.

About the relationship.

About what you want.

About what you don't want anymore.

Past-you made the best decision she could with the information she had.

Present-you has new information.

That doesn't make you flaky.

It makes you human.

๐Ÿ‘€ 6. WANTING ATTENTION

Let's talk about this one.

Sometimes you want to be noticed.

You want someone to flirt with you.

You want compliments.

You want to feel attractive.

You want somebody to look at you like โ€œDamn.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜

And no, wanting that doesn't automatically mean you're insecure.

Sometimes you simply enjoy feeling desired.

There's nothing wrong with admitting:

โ€œYeahโ€ฆ I like attention.โ€

Own it.

๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ 7. TAKING A LAZY DAY

You don't have to optimize every second of your existence.

You don't need to wake up at 5 AM, drink green juice, exercise, clean the entire house, answer every email, meal prep for the week, reorganize your closet, start a side hustle and somehow become a completely different person before dinner.

Sometimes you need a day where your biggest accomplishment is:

Absolutely nothing.

Rest isn't laziness.

And even if it is a little lazy?

So what?

You earned a day.

๐Ÿ’• 8. NOT BEING PRODUCTIVE ALL THE TIME

Your worth isn't measured by your completed to-do list.

You are not a machine.

You don't have to constantly be improving, achieving, cleaning, working, planning, or fixing something.

Sometimes sitting outside and doing absolutely nothing productive is exactly what you needed.

Not everything has to have a purpose.

Some things can simply feel good.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 9. WANTING MORE EXCITEMENT

Maybe your life is fine.

Maybe everything is perfectly okay.

But maybe you're sitting there thinking:

โ€œIs this it?โ€

That doesn't make you ungrateful.

It means you might be craving something new.

A new hobby.

A spontaneous night out.

A weekend away.

A new outfit.

A new experience.

A little adventure.

A little trouble. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You don't have to blow up your entire life.

Sometimes you just need to add something to it.

๐Ÿ’‹ AND HERE'S THE REAL PROBLEMโ€ฆ

We're often harder on ourselves than anyone else is.

We think we need permission to rest.

Permission to spend money.

Permission to say no.

Permission to want attention.

Permission to change.

Permission to have fun.

You don't.

You don't need to justify every little thing that makes you happy.

And you definitely don't need to feel guilty for taking care of yourself simply because someone else might not understand it.

So this week, try something different.

When that little voice says:

โ€œShould I feel guilty about this?โ€

Stop.

Ask yourself:

โ€œDid I actually do something wrongโ€ฆ or am I just used to putting everyone else first?โ€

There's a big difference.

๐Ÿ˜ THE WINK WINK CHALLENGE

This week, pick ONE thing you've been feeling guilty about that you don't actually need to feel guilty about.

Take the alone time.

Buy the thing.

Say no.

Sleep in.

Turn your phone off.

Change your mind.

Make the plans.

Do something fun.

Or simply give yourself permission to have a day where you don't accomplish a damn thing.

No guilt.

No explanation.

No apology.

Just you. ๐Ÿ’‹

Because maybe the thing you need to stop doing isn't something on your to-do listโ€ฆ

Maybe it's feeling guilty for being a person.

And honestly?

We're retiring that. ๐Ÿ–ค
